Changing Your Mindeset
Good morning! If you listen to those around you in our gym, you may hear....
~a friend of mine complimented me on my improved posture!
~my clothes are fitting better!
~my bone density test improved and my osteoporosis is almost gone!
~I can carry all my grocery bags in one trip!
~for the first time in my life, I have a handle on my loose joints and feel strong!
~my attitude and mood have improved!
This time of year you will hear and read a lot about how to stick to your New Year resolutions or how to set a goal and stick with it. This is info we have all read and heard before but yet, we still have a difficult time sticking with. This year I encourage you to allow your body and those around you to motivate and keep you consistent with your workouts.
If you listen to your body and become aware of all it can do, you will come to appreciate your workouts. We spend a lot of time criticizing ourselves and finding what we don't like on our body. What if we changed our mindset and started looking for and taking notice of what we do like and what we are able to accomplish each day! It's a simple, positive mindset switch we can all do right this instant. Think of something you were able to do today or this week, because you take care of your body. Look into the mirror and find one thing you appreciate about your body and say it aloud to acknowledge it. I can tell you I appreciate the fact that while decorating for Christmas, I could crawl, squat and balance with boxes in and out of the attic. There is NO way I could have done what I was able to without the workouts that keep me mobile and strong! What about you? Are you taking anything for granted?
I don't encourage resolutions because they are resolute. If you don't attain exactly what you set, you feel like a failure. Most of the time resolutions are not realistic and you set yourself up for failure when the newness of the fresh year fades. What I do encourage is to start with what you can do and build on it. The only way to do that is to remain consistent and recognize the small changes that occur weekly that lead to a bigger change.
If you're having a difficult time remaining consistent or even getting started with workouts this year, think about what you do in a day and how you feel at the end of the day. Would you like to do more? Would you like to feel better? Would you like to look better in your clothes? Would you like to prevent unnecessary pain and injury? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, make the decision to do something about it. The only way to make a change is to start doing something.
* Call me and I will help you get started and encourage you to keep going!
* Find a friend in class to meet each week!
* Write your intention down where you can see it and don't let excuses get in the way.
*Reframe your mind and say "I get to workout today!" Trust me, others that can't would kill to be in your position.
Start by appreciating what you can do, come in and build on it and make this the year of change!
